Online Voice Studio

Your voice, your identity:
strong, healthy, and beautiful.

Perhaps you have loved singing all your life and never had the chance to develop it. Perhaps you were on the road to vocal development, and for one reason or another life carried you away from it. Perhaps you’ve been meaning to take your craft further. And now, finally, you are ready.

Dr. Emily Anna Bridges

I am Dr. Emily Anna Bridges, a composer and vocal coach. For more than twenty years I have helped people find, develop, and love their own voices.

Working on the voice is not a hobby. It is one of the most personal forms of development we have: learning to make the full range of sound the body was built to make, and to shape it, skillfully, into something that moves other people. As the voice grows stronger, so does the person, in confidence, presence, and the freedom to be heard.

Who I work with

First-time singers
People who have always wanted to sing and are finally ready to begin, and those who have been told, wrongly, that they can’t.
Returning singers
Those who once sang and stopped, ready to come back to a voice they have missed.
Serious & professional singers
Artists developing their range and sound, preparing for the studio or the stage, or repairing a voice in trouble.
Voices seeking growth
People for whom the voice is a path to confidence, presence, and a deeper sense of themselves.

A proven method, shaped to each voice

My method draws on serious pedagogy: bel canto, Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique, and vocology, refined over years of teaching and my own background in the science of the body. But it is never one set of exercises handed to everyone. It is shaped to your voice, so the work goes deep, and the change lasts.

The work tends to unfold through three stages: discovering your voice, developing it, and finding the sound that is unmistakably your own.

What becomes possible

A professor in his seventies had never sung and could barely match pitch; within a few years he had a three-octave range and was singing difficult opera well.
A punk guitarist came to me having never sung a note, and two years later he was singing on a New York opera stage.
A lawyer who had always sung in the closet found her voice and left the firm for an Off-Broadway tour.
Singer-songwriters have found the voice to sing their own songs and gone on to record albums in New York, Nashville, and Los Angeles.

I have worked with more than fifteen thousand singers, from first-timers finding their voices to performers on international stages.

Dr. Bridges teaching at the piano

A scientist and an artist

I came to this work from two directions: composing for voices, and eight years in medical research before that. So I hear a voice two ways at once, as an instrument with moving parts I can name, and as the person making the sound. Both matter, and neither one works without the other.
